Tatiana Rincon Diaz is living in the Canary Islands of Spain as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. “You learn so much, and it gives you such a different perspective. I feel like no matter how self-aware, adventure-seeking, and intelligent you are, you can’t get all the perspectives unless you leave home,” she says. “Leave your comfort zone.”

FIRST UNCG GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM TO BE HELD APRIL 4

On April 4, 2025, UNCG’s Global Engagement Office will host its first campus-wide Global Symposium, which the office plans to make an annual event. The Global Symposium will be an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to connect with a community of like-minded global citizens and to share and celebrate their work. The event will be held in the EUC from 9 AM – 2 PM.

First-year, First Time Travel with UNCG in South Africa 

When first-year student Carla Smalls initially wanted to apply for the 2024 UNC Greensboro in South Africa summer program, her mom didn’t want her to go so far away. But when the application deadline was extended, she saw it as “a sign,” a chance to reconsider. This time, her mom said, “Go out and do what you want to do.” Smalls was one of ten UNCG first-year students to spend three weeks in Cape Town and the surrounding area this past summer, along with 60 others from around the world.

Fulbright Specialist Program Takes Bryan School Professor To South Africa

“None of this would have happened without Maria Anastasiou, associate provost for UNCG’s International Programs Center. I owe her a huge debt of gratitude,” Bhadury says. “When I told her that I couldn’t afford to take off six months or a year for the honor of a Fulbright Scholar award, she encouraged me to apply to the Fulbright Specialist Program.”
