UNIVERSITY OF KONSTANZ
Konstanz
Winter Semester: classes held from late October to mid-February. Exams in February and March
Summer Semester: classes held from mid-April to mid-July. Exams in July and August
Courses are available in English or German. More courses are taught in English at the master’s level than at the bachelor’s level.
Students wishing to take classes in German must be proficient at least at the B2 level.
German language instruction is offered by the Language Institute on all levels in small groups: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Language classes should not take precedence over student’s core study area, should instead but complement their studies.
The Language Institute will test students’ language competences and assign students to courses according to their individual language skills – results may be different than other test results, e.g. OLS. Students are not entitled to demand a specific level.
A housing application is included in the online exchange application. If students apply and pay a deposit (currently 800€) by the deadline, their application for accommodation in Seezeit student residences will be forwarded automatically. Because it is difficult to shorten the contract, the university recommends a contract until the end of July (summer semester) and the end of February (winter semester). If need be, an application for the extension of a contract is possible.
The private housing market in Konstanz is tight and expensive. There is no assistance for finding private housing in Konstanz, which is best found when on-site.
